Hard Gelatin Capsules
Hard gelatin capsules have a stiff outer cover once they are filled. They normally have a cap and a body which are cylindrical.
The cap is designed in such a way that it is smaller than the body enabling it to fit into the body. The seal formed is usually very tight to prevent the spillage of the ingredients contained within them.

Steps to encapsulate Empty Gelatin Capsules
Preparation
Before filling the capsules, ensure that your workspace is clean and free from any potential contaminants. Wash your hands thoroughly and use sterilized equipment to handle the capsules.

Filling
To facilitate the filling process, use a capsule filling machine or a capsule filling tray. These tools help to ensure accurate and even distribution of the product into the capsules. Carefully fill one half of the capsule, making sure not to overfill or underfill.

Closing
Once the first half of the capsule is filled, gently press down on the filled half while aligning the other empty half on top. Apply light pressure until you hear a click, indicating that the capsules are securely closed.

Storage
After you have filled and closed the capsules, store them in a cool and dry place to maintain their integrity. Moisture and heat can cause the capsules to become sticky or brittle.

Storage Requirements for Gelatin Capsules
Gelatin capsules contain more moisture than HPMC capsules and also tend to lose that moisture more quickly. Empty gelatin capsules have a moisture content between 13% and 16%; empty HPMC capsules have a moisture content between 3% and 8%.
Something to be aware of is that ambient conditions have an outsize impact on empty capsules, as their moisture content will gradually reach equilibrium with the surrounding relative humidity level. If controls are not in place at every point in the production process—including warehouse, storage, transportation, filling and packaging—they can easily either dry out or become too moist.
